The project was funded by the Erasmus+ for a duration of 3 years (15 Oct 2017 - 14 Oct 2020) with the participation of 15 partners (9 from Asia and 6 from Europe). Due to the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic, several activities of the project were rescheduled and reprogrammed adapting to constantly changing situations. The project itself was also approved by the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) to extend until 14 March 2021.
The project has the following objectives:
1) Enhance the scientific cooperation between researchers, PhD students and non-academic Stakeholders.
2) Improve the quality of Master and PhD programs in the Asian partner universities.
3)Development of relevant multidisciplinary research.
4) Strengthening the scientific collaboration between Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam and Europe.
5) Make Asian and European universities more internationalized.
Thanks to WANASEA, GASS has tightened the partnership and collaboration with different partners in Vietnam as well as in Asia and Europe resulted in:
+ An MoU signed with Can Tho University and Vietnam Maritime University (also partners of Wanasea project) in conducting collaborative researches and improving coordination to share knowledge, techniques, data and information and scientific project outcomes in close coordination with institutions programs within, but not limit to water and natural resource management sector.
+ Different Agreements signed with IRD, AUF, University of Nantes and AFD on supporting the Wanasea’s activities.
+ Potential cooperation with Cambodian partners: With the strength of training in social sciences, especially in Law, Public Policy and Economic Management, GASS is aiming to expand cooperation in training with partners in Cambodia, including NUM and RULE. This cooperation can be in or out of the field of water and natural resource management.

+ Improvement of the competences of staffs and students: After participating in training sessions in Thailand and Cambodia, GASS staffs have adopted teaching methods and organizing methods for training sessions which help organize successfully 04 training sessions for students from China in 01/2019, 07/2019 and 08/2019. The application of dynamic and positive teaching methods received a lot of the appreciation from students. In 2019, 2 students in Public Policy major had done the Master’s theses on “Policy execution on environmental protection in Thang Binh district, Quang Nam province” and “Policy execution on water resource protection in Chau Doc city, An Giang province”. Many materials from Training sessions and AWPs have been disseminated for GASS students to use as reference materials. One staff of GASS has won first place and granted 1.500 EUR in the Innovative Research Competition (IRC) funded by IRD.

+ Expanding international cooperation networks: from 2018 until now, there has been an increase in the memorandum of understanding was signed. 10 MOUs with foreign partners such as the Philippines, Taiwan, China, and Korea and 01 agreement with a multinational company were signed. These are mostly strategic partners for GASS's scientific research and training cooperation in the future. All MOUs were signed within 5 years.
+ Increase of the number of studies on water resources management, natural resources and sustainable development in GASS: 01 doctoral thesis in Law on the topic "Ensuring the right to access to clean water in the countryside in the Hong River Delta"; 08 reports on environment and sustainable development of GASS and VASS’ staffs, researchers, managers was submitted and accepted in the XIII International Scientific and Practical Conference “State and Prospects for the Development of Agribusiness – INTERAGROMASH 2020”.

+ The formation of an office dedicated to the project team which was equipped with computers and necessary software as well as a projector funded by the project. This office will be remained available after the end of WANASEA project in order to continue the collaboration with the consortium as well as to seek for future partnership opportunities with other potential partners in the field of capacity building.
We look forward to continuing the existing partnerships, transferring the knowledge gained from the project’s trainings and activities to other staffs and students as well as searching for new cooperation opportunities.
